North Murray
Rockmart will bring an explosive squad to town.
The Yellow Jackets have outscored their two Region 6-AAA opponents (Coahulla Creek and Sonoraville) by a combined score of 110-13. Rockmart split its two non-conference games against bigger schools -- beating Cedartown while losing to Rome.
Quarterback Javin Whatley is dynamo. He’s averaged 8.0 yards per carry (376 total) rushing while throwing for another 395 yards. He’s thrown four interceptions, but none in region games.
The Yellow Jackets spread the carries up among several players and have three running backs who have gained at least 100 yards this season.
Th receivers are small but extremely quick. Dennis Smith has averaged an 34.7 yards per catch on six receptions.
Defensive back Keyshaun McCollough is the leading tackler. Linebacker Travis Brown and lineman Sherman Davis (6-1, 230) both have four tackles for loss.
Murray
Coahulla Creek’s offense has struggled in two of three games.
The most productive player has been running back Tyler Locklear. The 200-pound junior has rushed for 407 yards, averaging 5.4 per carry. He is getting more than 25 carries per game.
The Colts beat Southeast Whitfield, 35-14. That victory was sandwiched between losses to Northwest Whitfield (27-6) and Rockmart 42-6.)
Quarterback Kade Kinnamon has completed just over 40 percent of his passes. He has two TD throws and one interception.
Sophomore wide receiver Will Douglas has six catches for 88 yards. That’s best on the team.
The top tacklers for the Colts are linebackers Mason Milstead and Titus Underwood and defensive end Adam Alexander, who has 2.5 sacks.
