Mr. Vernon “Preacher”  Samuel Buckner, age 85, of Chatsworth, passed away on November 1, 2020, at Advent Health in Calhoun.

Mr. Buckner retired from Murray County Public Works in August of this year and was the owner of Arnolds Service Station # 2 for 41 years, and served in the United States Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Della Buckner; sisters, Dora West and Jean Shull; and brother, Ernest Buckner.

Survivors include children and spouses, Mark and Angela Buckner, Carla and Randy Akins, Greg Guinn and Amy Smith, all of Chatsworth; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Clyde Martin, of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Jana Hicks, Sarah Akins and Carlos Alarcon, Rebekah and Jonathan Akins, Gregory Guinn, Hayley Earley, Gavin Guinn, Chaisen Buckner, Ansley Buckner, Martin Alarcon, Eli Walker, Emri Early, Abbi Guinn, and  Trevor Hicks. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Buckner was held Friday, November 6, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Harrison Parker and  Rev. Jonathan Akins officiating. Interment followed in Chatsworth Heights Cemetery with Chatsworth American Legion in charge of Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Murray County Veterans Memorial Park. Contact Harrison Parker and Linda Spivey for donations. The family received friends on Friday, November 6, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
