Gov. Kemp appoints Petty to state BOE

Phenna Petty of Murray County will sworn in this week as the newest member of the Georgia Board of Education.
Petty, 60, will represent the 14th District, replacing longtime board member Larry Winters of Dalton.
“I will be sworn in on Tuesday at the governor’s office and attend my first meetings on Wednesday and Thursday,” Petty told The Chatsworth Times on Monday.
The 14th Congressional district includes all or parts of 12 counties, including Murray and Whitfield.
Petty said she initially talked with officials from the governor’s office about the post before the year end holidays. She said she accepted the position last Friday.
The Georgia Board of Education’s primary purpose is to set overall education policy for the state.
